“Couples Retreat”

Hey guys,

A new Universal movie featuring Vince Vaughn, but more importantly, a very special friend of mine, Mr. Xavier Tournaud, hit theaters this weekend. I attended the premiere Monday night with Xavier, and I highly recommend you go with ANYONE to this knee slapper. You won’t regret the 25 bucks spent on the ticket, popcorn and a coke– I guarantee it! So check out “Couples Retreat”, and let me know what you think of the movie on Twitter. You can follow me @MissRachelSmith. Look forward to hearing your thoughts! Here’s a photo from the evening on the red carpet: http://kittenlounge.onsugar.com/5521686. Enjoy!

Pageants to showcase Tennessee women

BY STACY LEISER • THE LEAF-CHRONICLE • SEPTEMBER 28, 2009

It’s the 10th anniversary of Clarksville becoming home to the Miss Tennessee USA and Miss Tennessee Teen USA pageants, in 1999.

For the 11th time next week, at Austin Peay State University’s 500-seat Concert Theater, the new Miss Tennessee USA and Miss Tennessee Teen USA will be crowned in Clarksville.

The preliminary pageants are 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Friday, with the Teen finals at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and the Miss finals at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Clarksville’s own Rachel Smith, Miss USA 2007, will be one of the masters of ceremony for the pageant finals.

A new national titleholder from Tennessee also will be onstage, Stormi Henley. From Crossville, Henley was crowned Miss Teen USA July 31.

“She will be giving up her crown as Miss Tennessee Teen, but she will continue her reign as Miss Teen USA,” said Theresa Harrington, director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Harrington said the positive impact of the pageants on Clarksville is enormous, bringing visitors in from all over Tennessee and beyond.

“We have 38 teens and 44 Miss (contestants). They are beautiful girls, several local girls,” Harrington said. “The pageants give us the opportunity to showcase our community.”

Tickets can be reserved by phone with a credit card or reserved and picked up in person by calling Jessica Goldberg at 245-4346, now through Sept. 30. After Sept. 30, tickets will not be sold until 5:30 p.m. Friday, one hour before the first pageant begins, Harrington said.

a day I shall never forget…

There are few days in history that I can vividly remember taking place during the course of my short lifetime. Today is one of those days.

As I finished my routine hair and make-up process for E! News Now, a fellow colleague and friend, Jason Kennedy, raced into the room looking as pale as pale can be. Then he delivered the unfathomable news: the “King of Pop”, Michael Jackson, died.

In complete shock and awe, nothing escaped my mouth. Jackson was so young, so talented, so monumental. This man was about to embark on his enormous comeback. It was far too early for this legendary man to depart with so much left unfinished.

As I taped Jackson’s obituary segment for E! News Now, I still couldn’t believe the words I was delivering. The “King of Pop” is really gone?

Despite the controversies amongst several realms of his life, I whole-heartedly believe Jackson’s legacy will be one of positivity. He shall be remembered for being the first African-American entertainer, and entertainer in general, to transend generations and cultures through the means of music.

I pray for the strength of the Jackson family, especially his three children, and his closest of friends and colleagues. May his music continue to inspire us all.

I would also like to take this time to extend my deepeest sympothy to the family of Farrah Fawcett as they seek to find peace, as well, during this very difficult time.

Rallied for Kids with Cancer

The weekend of May 1st, I participated in one of the most memorable charity events EVER: Rally for Kids with Cancer Scavenger Cup! It was literally an adult scavenger hunt throughout LA and the surrounding areas in all sorts of crazy, luxury cars for a very cool cause: beating childhood cancer. The various celebrities, dubbed “navigators”, included individuals such as Eva Longoria-Parker, Tony Parker, Gene Simmons, Adam Rodriguez, Brenda Strong and Zachary Levi. These celebrities and others teamed up with sponsors, the “drivers”, to complete the various tasks for the hunt. We found ourselves taking goofy photos on sets at Universal Studios, completing a type of relay race at Dodger Stadium, singing in Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins recording studio, and acting out skits in front of a panel of judges that consisted of patients from the Children’s Hospital LA. Crazy fun to say the least! I’m not certain of the specific amount of money raised over the weekend, but there is no doubt that thousands, if not a couple hundred thousands of dollars were raised, and the message of championing childhood cancer was successfully conveyed. I have attached a few photos from the action-packed day. Enjoy! Be well. xRach

P.S. Winning isn’t everything, but I would like to inform you that my team, Team United, took second place. Woohoo! We TOTALLY worked Ken Paves and Stephen Baldwin, guys! ;)
